No wonder we get so caught up in this society where headlines teach us that our bodies are something to be ashamed of and always improved – never celebrated. The media either shames celebrities for their imperfections – or promotes touched up, slimmed down edits of the real thing in a bid to sell you the product that will help you attain this unrealistic image (see headline image!!).

It is impossible to keep up with ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods, there is a new diet on the scene ever week that promises quick easy weight loss, and releases of celebrity DVDs where they assure you that you’ll learn their ‘secret’ to their success at attaining the

‘perfect body’… 

It is so easy to begin talking to ourselves negatively and losing connection with REAL health and fitness. We loose the connection that we have with our bodies by focusing on comparing to other people’s bodies and end up judging, punishing and shaming our bodies rather than loving and cherishing them for everything they do for us.

Health is so much more than a number on a scale or the size of our jeans. Real health is about how we feel about ourselves, and how we treat our bodies with love and respect in order to be able to live a life that is full of happiness and vitality. The best way for you to be able to give love to your family, your partner or your children is by first loving yourself.

Exercise enables us to get in touch with our body and treat it with the respect it deserves. By improving our health and fitness through a good work out we learn to reconnect with ourselves and celebrate how amazing our bodies are and everything they do for us!

Before we can really make permanent positive changes to our health and fitness we must start by ending negative self talk and criticism. Criticism has not worked in the past, and it will not work in the future in the journey of achieving your goals. By being gentle with ourselves and being positive about the way we are right now we are able to accept that we are deserving of the things that we are longing for. Love your body and I can assure you – it will love you back!
